THE NIGHT CIRCUS BY ERIN MORGENSTERN
The circus arrives without warning....
And the circus also doesn't warn before making a permanent place in your heart. The Night Circus is a magical story of two people who are bound by a challenge against each other where both are supposed to outdo the other to win. Neither the challenge nor the challengers are ordinary. Celia Bowen, the lovely daughter of the celebrated magician Prospero The Enchanter , has magic in her veins, which she controls with finesse alongside managing her tumultuous relationship with her father who is extremely selfish and reckless. Marco Alisdair, a handsome youth , with a penchant for reading and lots of talent in magic, which is subtle yet powerful, has an enigmatic teacher who doesn't prefer indulging Marco beyond the needful. The entire circus, along with its members revolves around this challenge, which is as vague as its outcome is uncertain. Both Celia and Marco are unaware of the consequences of this challenge which are far more serious than they can imagine.
The circus on the other hand is another world altogether. Those who enter it leave stupefied, because not only does it seem enchanting and breathtaking, but is becomes a surreal experience for them. Such is the effect of the circus. It functions on perfection and magic.
Those among the members of the circus are the people who possess remarkable skills and they all have their own histories and mysteries. They all are bound to the circus and only too content to be a part of it. Some of those who are mere spectators develop a bond with the circus so strong, that the circus feels like home to them. Bailey, for instance, is one such character, who feels a strong sense of belonging whenever he enters the circus, which he never felt at his own house.
The Night Circus transports the reader to a world that is heartbreakingly beautiful and unreal. It is a splendid and indelible story.
